Upcoming Field Trip

March Field Trip: Rednation Pow-Wow

The 6th Annual Rednation Pow-Wow will be held March 20-21, 2010 at the Clinton Nature Preserve in Winston, Georgia.

The location of the Clinton Nature Preserve is 8702 Ephesus Church Road.  If you take I-20 west to Post Road and then take a left at the exit, you won't get lost. :)

There is a small charge for admission, which is $5 for ages 12-55, $3 for 55+, and $3 for kids 5-12.  Children under 5 are free.

The Rednation Pow-Wow provides an excellent opportunity to photograph many dancers, and their Grand Entrance ceremonies are always inspiring.  My family has attended the Pow-Wow the past two years and we have always had a great time.  There are walking trails on the preserve too, which allow for more nature photography as well.

Gates are open from 10am - 6pm Saturday and Sunday with the Grand Entry held at noon on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

Nature Photographer Larry Winslett to present on September 11, 2008
By Richard Nichols
We invite you to join us Thursday evening, September 11th at 7 p.m. at the Parish Hall of St. Julian’s Episcopal Church here in Douglasville for a beautiful nature photography presentation by Larry Winslett. According to his website artist’s profile at http://www.larrywinslett.com :

Larry Winslett is a nature photographer who has chronicled the natural world in many parts of North America, with an emphasis on the Southern Appalachian Mountains.  He has specialized in the region's native wildflowers, rivers and streams, and granite outcrops such as Stone, Panola, and Arabia Mountains in Georgia.  His photographs have been featured in a variety of publications, such as Sierra, Wilderness, and Wild Mountain Times.  His work can also be seen in four permanent exhibits at Stone Mountain Park.”

Some of you may remember Larry from his visit to our meeting over two years ago. He plans to display a PowerPoint presentation of his Nature Photography work as he provides tips, tricks and anecdotes about creating successful and dynamic fine art images using Nature as the catalyst. Larry gives a number of nature photography workshops each year and has authored several books which showcase his photography and ideas. He will be bringing some of his books to display, so if you bring your 10 or 15 dollars you may walk out with something far more valuable.

Larry will also be judging our monthly contest. This month the subject is “Abandoned Properties.” Please visit the website at http://www.sweetwatercameraclub.org/contests/contest-topics/2008 for more contest information. We also will have images from the recent Atlanta Botanical Garden field trip critiqued by Larry.
