Upcoming Field Trip

March Field Trip: Rednation Pow-Wow

The 6th Annual Rednation Pow-Wow will be held March 20-21, 2010 at the Clinton Nature Preserve in Winston, Georgia.

The location of the Clinton Nature Preserve is 8702 Ephesus Church Road.  If you take I-20 west to Post Road and then take a left at the exit, you won't get lost. :)

There is a small charge for admission, which is $5 for ages 12-55, $3 for 55+, and $3 for kids 5-12.  Children under 5 are free.

The Rednation Pow-Wow provides an excellent opportunity to photograph many dancers, and their Grand Entrance ceremonies are always inspiring.  My family has attended the Pow-Wow the past two years and we have always had a great time.  There are walking trails on the preserve too, which allow for more nature photography as well.

Gates are open from 10am - 6pm Saturday and Sunday with the Grand Entry held at noon on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

Our next Field Trip may be to Sweetwater Creek Ranch where we will have the opportunity to photograph newborn lambs (time depends on when the sheep give birth). One of our fellow members, Sandy Belk, owns the farm and has invited us to come for a field trip. She and her husband raise Old English "Babydoll" Southdown Sheep--what she says is a big name for a miniature sheep. According to Sandy, they have babies once a year in the late Winter or early Spring. You may check out their website at: http://www.sweetwatercreekranchga.com

Sandy also says, the farm is muddy this time of the year so wear muck boots if you've got them. The flood hit them hard so there is very little green. Weather permitting, we can go on the pasture to photograph. Sandy also said she would set up a place in the barn for photos so you can bring your children to pose with the lambs.

Keep checking out our website for updates. Thank you so much Sandy Belk this sounds like we will have a great time and lots of photo ops.

The farm is located at: 1221 Lester Road, Douglasville, GA 30134
