March Field Trip: Rednation Pow-Wow

The 6th Annual Rednation Pow-Wow will be held March 20-21, 2010 at the Clinton Nature Preserve in Winston, Georgia.

The location of the Clinton Nature Preserve is 8702 Ephesus Church Road. If you take I-20 west to Post Road and then take a left at the exit, you won't get lost. :)

There is a small charge for admission, which is $5 for ages 12-55, $3 for 55+, and $3 for kids 5-12. Children under 5 are free.

The Rednation Pow-Wow provides an excellent opportunity to photograph many dancers, and their Grand Entrance ceremonies are always inspiring. My family has attended the Pow-Wow the past two years and we have always had a great time. There are walking trails on the preserve too, which allow for more nature photography as well.

Gates are open from 10am - 6pm Saturday and Sunday with the Grand Entry held at noon on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

Month	Topic	Description
January	Seasons Field Trip	We’ve given you the entire year to prepare for this one! To enter this month’s contest you must have three separate images, (2 color and/or 2 Monochrome) each image (in its category) representing a different season! In other words; you must have 2 images in the color category, and/or three images in the B&W category to enter at all! And each of those three images must be of a different season! Images will still be judged and prized individually, per tradition. Newnan Festival of Lights: Contest includes any color/bw photo made during trip
February	*Portrait* *Field Trip*	A likeness of a person or group of people, often featuring the face. It can show elements of personality and moods and is open to a wide variety of photographic interpretation Sweetwater Creek State Park "Introduction to Winter Bird Watching:" Contest includes any color/bw photo made during trip
March	Emotion	A photographic image that readily and effectively elicits a basic emotion such as Joy, Trust, Fear, Surprise, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, or Anticipation
April	Texture	A photograph in which the texture of a surface or surfaces are strongly portrayed and readily stand out in the image
May	Abstracts	The use of shape, design and form to create an image that transcends the straight forward representation of its pictorial elements so as to take on a new on a meaning of it’s own
June	Macro or Close-Up	A detailed view taken very close to the subject or close-up images of small things. Technically a macro image displays a ratio of 1 to one (life sized) or greater. If not 1 to 1, it should be very close to 1 to 1
July	Early and Late Light	Photography made just before, at the time of, or just after sunset or sunrise when contrast is low and colors tend to be saturated
August	*Architecture*	A photograph of interior or exterior structures or structural elements. Early and late light tend to be the optimum times for exteriors
September	Landscapes	A wide range of photography in which areas of space in the world are featured. It can feature nature, strongly defined land forms, urban areas, and bodies of water
October	Reflections	An image that features subject matter that is repeated by means of a reflective surface
November	*Motion*	An image that emphasizes the motion of an object or objects. This can be done by freezing (with a fast shutter speed) or blurring (with a slow/slower shutter speed) the action
December	Open Category	Bring your pictures of choice taken in the last year. Limited to one image per category - color, monochrome, field trip
January	*Silhouettes*	A photograph that shows an outline or profile of the subject or subjects that are rendered black or very dark; such as when the subject is back lit
February	Something Old / Something New	An image that strongly emphasizes the stark difference between subject matter old and new
